Home Sewerage Treatment Plant

A Home Sewerage Treatment Plant is a home-based system that uses the same technology as larger municipal plants to effectively treat both black (sewerage) and grey (sullage) waste water.

These systems adhere to strict environmental requirements.  The water is treated naturally, without any dangerous chemicals or additives.  A major advantage of these systems is that the treated water can then be used safely for irrigation as it will not damage the environment.

Home Sewerage Treatment Plants are ideal for water catchment and coastal areas where septic effluent can get into water ways.  Likewise, farmers often prefer to install a Home Sewerage Treatment Plant to ensure that aquifers used for stock or drinking water remain unpolluted by septic effluent.  Home Sewerage Treatment Plants are also a viable alternative for smaller house blocks with limited room for the leach drains required for septic systems.

Wastewater is treated in an environmentally sustainable way using naturally occurring bacteria present in the waste water.  The system is designed to hold the polluted or degraded water in specially designed compartments where various types of bacteria can flourish and in doing so, “treat” the water, naturally, without dangerous chemicals or additives.

The treatment is a five-step process:

  1. Coarse filtration
  2. Pre-treatment
  3. Aeration
  4. Settling
  5. Disinfection

After treatment, an irrigation pump automatically transfers the now clear water out into the environment where it can be beneficially re-used for irrigation in your garden without presenting a threat to you, your family, your neighbours or the environment.
